Get Ready for the 2020 Chevy Traverse
If you have a large clan to haul around, you don’t want to travel crammed tightly in a too-small vehicle. The 2020 Chevrolet Traverse is among the largest midsize sport utility vehicles, with lots of shoulder-, head-, and legroom in all three rows of seating, and it is guaranteed to transport everyone quite comfortably.
Space for Passengers and Cargo
The Traverse won’t leave you cramped for space; it offers one of the roomiest interiors in its class. It can handle eight passengers with the second-row bench seat in the L and LS trim levels. It has 157.3 cubic feet of passenger space, more than the larger Chevy Tahoe and Suburban. With all three rows of seating in use, it can handle 23 cubic feet of cargo. Folding down the third row provides 57.8 cubic feet of cargo space, and folding down the second row raises that to a whopping 98.2 cubic feet. That’s without counting the bin beneath the cargo area or the many small storage spaces around the front of the interior, including one hidden behind the infotainment touch screen.
Power to Get Moving
Standard on all versions of the 2020 Traverse is a capable 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. Car & Driver reports that the engine “pulls strongly and the Traverse is on the quicker end of its class.” The V-6 features variable valve timing and spark ignition direct injection, and is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. It gets 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
Enjoy the Ride
Traverse features a MacPherson strut coil spring front suspension with a large stabilizer bar and side-load-compensated front strut modules. It has an independent five-link rear suspension. There’s an electronic stability control system with traction control. Electric power steering is rack-mounted with variable assist. The result, some reviewers noted, is that the Traverse often drives like a smaller vehicle. Kelley Blue Book says: “From how the steering and brakes respond to input and feel when used, to how the suspension virtually eliminates wallow and provides remarkably athletic handling, the Chevy Traverse is good to drive.”
Be Infotained
Chevy’s new Infotainment 3 system, which replaces the MyLink system offered in previous model years, is extremely user-friendly with a well-thought-out menu layout, reviewers agree. The Traverse’s system comes with a high-mounted 7-inch touch screen featuring colorful graphics, a 4G Wi-Fi hot spot that can handle up to seven devices, Bluetooth connectivity, and six USB ports spread among all three seating rows. It’s compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Available options on some trim levels include an 8-inch touch screen, navigation features, wireless device charging, SiriusXM satellite radio, a Bose audio system with 10 speakers, wireless device charging, and a rear-seat entertainment system with a DVD player.
